Latham Steel is a trusted manufacturer and supplier in Hamilton, New Zealand, of top-caliber Weathering Steel Sheets and Plates that can withstand extremely harsh weather conditions over a long time. The sheets and plates have been engineered in a molecular structure that allows them to be highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion, developing a protective oxide layer that contributes to durability and minimal maintenance. Latham Steel guarantees accurate manufacturing, consistent dimensional accuracy, and reliable mechanical strength in accordance with the expectations within the construction, transportation, and architectural engineering industries. The Company embraces innovation and quality in supplying the Weathering Steel products with unparalleled structural integrity, aesthetic appeal, and cost-effective performance in various applications.
Weathering steel plates and sheets have iron, carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, copper, chromium, and nickel, which, when exposed, form a rust layer that prevents corrosion. They have high tensile strength, good toughness, and better weldability. Being more resistant to atmospheric corrosion, they are the best for buildings outside. Their benefits are less maintenance, economical, and they have a rural look, without the need to paint them. Typical uses are in bridges, facades, railcars, and industrial buildings, with long-term performance in aggressive conditions requiring a minimum of maintenance.

Weathering Steel Sheets and Plates are based on unalloyed low-carbon steels to which substantial contents of copper, chromium, nickel, manganese, and phosphorus have been added to ensure the formation of a tightly adhering protective rust patina. This oxide layer gives them greatly improved resistance to corrosion and removes the need to paint. In particular, they have high tensile and yield strength, with excellent toughness and weldability. They also show good resistance to atmospheric oxidation, in particular, for outdoor exposure. During long exposure, mechanical properties remain stable.

Weathering Steel Sheets and Plates are being widely used in industries because of their excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability. Common applications include bridge construction, building façades, architectural structures, outdoor sculptures, and other projects that require both strength and aesthetic qualities. Railcars, shipping containers, road barriers, and transmission poles in infrastructure construction rely on this to offer long-lasting, maintenance-free services. For landscape designers, it has a patina finish which they use for retaining walls, garden edging, and outdoor installations. Thus, this became the preferred material for functional and decorative purposes because of its ability to withhold hard environmental conditions.
